Therapy for the Creative and Performing Arts
When Your Art Is Part of Who You Are
Being creative can be one of the most meaningful parts of your life. It can also be one of the most vulnerable.
I provide therapy for actors, dancers, musicians, singers, writers, painters, visual artists, and other creative professionals dealing with performance anxiety, perfectionism, creative blocks, rejection, self-doubt, and the emotional demands of a creative career. I work with both emerging artists and established professionals throughout New Jersey, New York, Illinois, and Pennsylvania.
Whether you're just beginning to explore your creative identity, trying to turn your work into a career, or have been working professionally for years, each stage brings its own pressures.
And sometimes the problem isn't the art at all. You're simply a creative person who is also dealing with anxiety, OCD, trauma, relationships, depression, self-esteem, or the ordinary complications of being human.
From Emerging Artists to Working Professionals
You don't need professional credits, representation, publications, exhibitions, or paid work to consider yourself a creative person.
If you're just getting started, you may wonder whether you're talented enough, whether you can realistically make a career of your work, or even when you're "allowed" to call yourself an actor, writer, dancer, musician, or artist.
For established professionals, the questions can change: Can I sustain the career I've built? What happens when the work isn't coming? Why doesn't success feel the way I expected? Who am I when I'm not working?
Whether you're taking your first acting class, writing your first manuscript, preparing for auditions, training as a dancer, creating your first body of paintings, playing your first gigs, or have been working professionally for decades, therapy can provide a place to focus on both the work and the person doing the work.
Performance Anxiety, Perfectionism & Self-Doubt
The creative process asks you to do something unusual: make or perform something deeply personal and then allow other people to judge it.
That can create a complicated relationship with perfectionism, anxiety, self-doubt, comparison, and rejection.
You may find yourself overthinking auditions, replaying performances, comparing yourself to other artists, struggling with creative blocks, questioning your talent, fearing criticism, or becoming so focused on getting something "right" that it's difficult to create at all.
For actors, dancers, singers, and musicians, trying desperately not to feel nervous can sometimes make performance anxiety even stronger.
Therapy can help you develop the ability to perform and create with anxiety present rather than requiring yourself to feel confident before doing what matters.
Rejection, Comparison & Creative Blocks
Rejection and uncertainty are unavoidable parts of a creative career. Whether you're an actor, writer, dancer, musician, or visual artist, talent and hard work don't always guarantee success.
The pressure to succeed can also lead to perfectionism, self-doubt, and creative blocks. When every audition, performance, or project becomes a measure of your talent, taking creative risks can become increasingly difficult.
Therapy can help you navigate rejection, challenge perfectionism, and rediscover the freedom to create without constantly evaluating yourself.
Sometimes the better question isn't "Is this good enough?" but "Am I willing to make it and find out?"
Your Career Is Not Your Worth
When your creative work is closely tied to your identity, rejection, criticism, injury, or periods without work can feel deeply personal.
Therapy can help you separate your professional accomplishments from your self-worth without diminishing your passion for your art.
And you don't have to be struggling creatively to benefit from therapy. Working with someone who understands the creative world allows you to focus on whatever challenges brought you here.
My Connection to the Arts
My interest in working with creative people goes beyond my clinical practice. I'm also a writer, painter, singer, and performer.
Having spent much of my life creating and sharing my own work, I understand the vulnerability, uncertainty, excitement, and challenges that come with pursuing the arts.
You don't need a therapist who shares your artistic discipline, but it helps to work with someone who understands why your creative life matters.

My Approach
My clinical background is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and I integrate approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and EMDR depending on your needs and goals. We may work practically on performance anxiety, perfectionism, rejection, or creative blocks; explore patterns affecting relationships and self-worth; process traumatic experiences; or simply create a place where you don't have to perform for anyone.
Online Therapy for Creative & Performing Artists
I primarily provide therapy through secure telehealth sessions and work with adults throughout New Jersey, New York, Illinois, and Pennsylvania.
I work with actors, dancers, musicians, singers, writers, painters, visual artists, and other creative people at all stages—from people just beginning to explore their creative lives to established working professionals.
Your Work Matters. So Does the Person Making It.
You don't have to wait until you've "made it" to take your creative life seriously. And if you have made it, you don't have to pretend that success eliminates anxiety, insecurity, rejection, or uncertainty.
You can care deeply about your art without allowing every audition, review, rejection, performance, exhibition, publication, or opportunity to determine how you feel about yourself.
You can experience anxiety and still perform. You can experience uncertainty and still create.
